Residency Program

The Yale Hearing and Balance Center is a comprehensive audiology practice providing care for patients of all ages. We strive to provide an interdisciplinary team approach to provide our patients with the best level of care possible. We have five full time audiologists (4 Au.D and 1 MA of Audiology) that have strong backgrounds in all aspects of our profession. We perform approximately 1500 pediatric diagnostic evaluations and about 1200 adult evaluations annually.

Fourth year externs are an integral part of our busy clinic. They work closely with our audiologists and physicians allowing them to grow into a confidant, independent audiologist. We require that our fourth year applicants can complete a thorough case history, competently perform all diagnostic evaluations and critically think about each case presented. Externs should also have strong knowledge in hearing aids and some working knowledge of cochlear implants and Baha devices. We also look for applicants that have good counseling skills for both pediatric and adult patients. Externs should be eager to learn and can work independently during down time to improve their skill set.

Our center feels that all professionals should have some research knowledge, therefore we require each extern to work on a small, clinically relevant research project (of their choice) that will be showcased at a convention and annually at our Otolaryngology Resident Research forum. We strongly encourage our externs to attend local conferences and surgical grand rounds at Yale-New Haven Hospital and the Yale School of Medicine. Our externs are also invited to visit the operating room for a variety of surgeries performed by our physicians.

If you are interested in applying to our center, please have your program coordinator contact Bernadette Palmese, Au.D at (203) 785-4454 or via email (bernadette.palmese@ynhh.org). We require a cover letter, resume, 2 letters of recommendation and a copy of your transcript (unofficial transcripts will be accepted) to be send either via email (Bernadette.palmese@ynhh.org) or via mail to the following address:
